GRAFSEAL

Technological advancement in different spheres of industry demands more and more reliable packings and seals. Our Research and Development effort concentrates on the search for such new materials able to meet this growing demand.

One such product is GRAFSEAL; manufactured out of Pure Graphite (99.5 % to 99.9 % Carbon) containing no oil or grease, susceptible to melting out, or vapourisation; no binder or additive that could contaminate process steams.

GRAFSEAL'S extraordinary chemical and physical properties make it an ideal material for manufacture of different types of Packings and Seals for pumps, valves and flanges.

GRAFSEAL establishes new standards in sealing performance. Plant and Maintenance Engineers throughout industry specify GRAFSEAL packings to optimise equipment life and to achieve higher efficiency in productions. The use of GRAFSEAL results in low leakage, less labour, minimum maintenance and also minimises the higher cost of downtime.

Hence it is the common choice in industries like Heavy Electricals, Thermal Power Stations, Fertilizer Plants, Steel Mills, Petrochemicals, Refineries, Nuclear Installations, Heavy Water Plants, Paper Mills, Foodstuffs, Chemical and other Process Industries.

GRAFSEAL is considered a premium performance gland seal arrangement by manufacturers of valves and pumps especially so for steam control valves and boiler water feed pumps.

TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE
GRAFSEAL withstands temperatures from - 200°C to + 600°C in oxidising media and upto 3000°C in reducing or inert atmospheres. Its sublimation temperature is 3650°C. It will not melt or support combustion. No other self lubricating material has this range of thermal properties as GRAFSEAL

PRESSURE RESISTANCE
GRAFSEAL can be used safely for pressures upto 300 kg/cm2

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
GRAFSEAL seals against liquids and gases. Even under most difficult operating conditions it does to become brittle. It is unaffected by organic and inorganic acids, solvents, alkalies, hot waxes and oils. It can be used in the PH range of 0 to 14. To mention a few exceptions - strong oxidising compounds viz. concentrated nitric acid, concentrated sulphuric acid with dissolved oxidising salts, permanganate solution and perchloric acid. It is non-resistant to molten alkali and alkaline earth metals.

CORROSION RESISTANCE
Due to exceedingly low inorganic impurity, it is a corrosion resistant material. The chloride and ferric content of GRAFSEAL are so insignificantly low that they can be overlooked. There is no electrochemical corrosion on spindles or shafts. For most critical applications corrosion free materials are also available on request.

SELF LUBRICATION
GRAFSEAL has a very low coefficient of friction against steel (0.08 to 0.1). It being an all graphite material, it is self lubricating. The moving parts hardly wear resulting in extraordinary long life. It is non - abrasive and will polish the stem or shaft with continued operation.

DIMENSIONAL STABILITY
GRAFSEAL packing has no tendency to creep or cold flow. Its physical characteristics remain unaffected even at extremes of temperature and pressure fluctuations. It has no ageing character, hence life is infinite. It does not soften, harden, degrade, even under fluctuating environmental and storage conditions.

THERMAL DISSIPATION
GRAFSEAL is known for its thermal conductivity. The heat generated at the shaft or spindle is quickly transferred to the housing where it is dissipated at a rapid rate thereby prolonging the packing and the equipment life. This helps minimise gland leakage as also the need for gland adjustments.

PERMEABILITY
GRAFSEAL is impermeable to all gases and fluids, hence it is a successful material for pumps and valves handling Thermic Fluids such as Dowtherm and other Hydrocarbon service conditions.

RADIATION RESISTANCE
GRAFSEAL is resistant to radioactivity of any magnitude prevalent in Nuclear Installations. Due to the high resistance to radiation GRAFSEAL packings have been standardised by Atomic Power Plants.
